It’s no secret that I attend a lot of (natural hair) events. In the natural hair community, events almost always mean a swag bag is involved. 🙂 This past wash day, I decided to try out a few of the items I’ve received in recent swag bags. For this session, I picked Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil which I received at the Know Your Roots event, and MopTop HairCare deep conditioner from the INHMD Dallas event.

The Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil

Is a sulphate free, foaming, water activated cleanser with an advanced oil base which gently removes dirt while restoring essential moisture.

This was my first experience with “oil cleansing” for hair and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed. I intentionally skipped my pre-poo to test out how well the cleansing oil works. My hair was in need of a deep cleanse, and this product delivered without making it feel dry or stripped. As a matter of fact, my hair felt really soft after rinsing.

The MopTop Hair Care deep conditioner is a super thick, creamy conditioner infused with sea botanicals and honey. The conditioner went on really smooth and I could instantly feel the minty tingle on my scalp. The conditioner has a clean, minty smell.

Upon rinsing, my hair felt conditioned, strong and very elastic. This conditioner contains “hair keratin amino acids, silk amino acids, hydrolyzed soy protein and hydrolyzed wheat protein” and is recommended for “occasional deep conditioning”.

Once I rinsed my deep conditioner out,  I allowed it to dry a bit and then twisted it up in preparation for some “pinned up twists“. I’m giving my hair a break after being “out” constantly for the past few weeks.

Toss or Keep? : Both the Cleansing cleansing oil & the MopTop deep conditioner will live to see another day. While they won’t be replacing anyone of my favorites, they are really good products.

YOUR TURN: What new products have you tried lately? Were they a keeper or did you toss ’em?

Until next time

I’ve never heard of the mop top brand but it sounds good especially that minty tingling. Haven’t experienced that since I had to drop Trader Joe’s tea tree.

Girl there are so many undiscovered brands out there lol. This one is actually based in TX and it fairly “newish”. I love a minty tingle myself. What made you stop using the TJ’s, ingredients?

Thanks Sandy. I also got the Curling Custard in my bag so I’ll be trying it out soon 🙂
