Summer is officially here and we have the hot temperatures to show for it. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to do too much with my hair but I also want to make sure I don’t neglect it during these extremely hot months. With travel, events and all the other activities, hair can get put on the back burner sometimes. Here are 5 summer hair tips for natural hair.
1) Protect Your Ends
The heat will do a number on your ends if you allow it. It’s easy to protect your ends with styles such as buns, twists and updos during the summer months.
If your ends are old and raggedy, it will also be a good idea to have them trimmed.
2) Wrap it Up or Put It Away
You’ll see lots of naturals sporting head wraps or protective styles during the summer, because it’s just too hot to be bothered and we want the hair out of the way and away from our face and neck. Head wraps, scarves, hats, crochet braids or twists are all great ways to beat the heat.
3) Deep Condition & Moisturize
Just because you’ve put your hair away doesn’t mean you can just forget about it. The warm temperatures will zap the moisture out of your hair so it’s important to replenish that moisture loss. You may notice that you my need to moisturize a bit more often especially if you’re out and about. Some naturals carry a liquid leave in spray or spritz for on the the moisturizing.

5) Protect your hair before & after swimming
It’s hot so naturally we head for the pool or the beach, but lots of chlorine and salt water can both be damaging to our hair.
Tip: Before swimming saturate your strands in conditioner. This will prevent your hair from soaking up too much chlorine or salt water. After swimming, try co-washing or cleansing with a clarifying shampoo and follow up with a deep conditioner.
