This post is extra special to me because it my first post as a guest blogger for Bella Kinks. I’m so grateful to Julian (founder of Bella Kinks) for the opportunity to share my posts on her site.

Summer is officially here! However, the weather has been summer-like for the past 2 months; hot, humid and sticky. This is when I usually gravitate to one of my favorite protective/low-manipulation styles because it is perfect for the days when I just don’t feel like fussing with my hair.

I love mini twists because they are so simple, easy, and yet so very versatile. It takes me between 5 – 8 hours to do them depending on how “mini” or “micro” I make them. The biggest complaint I hear from naturals is that they don’t know how to style them. My advice is to use your imagination and just go with the flow. Some of my best styles happened “by accident”. Here are a few styling options.

This style “happened” by standing in front of the mirror, grabbing sections of hair and folding them into place.

You can wear them “as is” for a more carefree look.

You can also pin them up for a more sophisticated/polished vibe. The possibilities for up-dos with mini twists are endless. Again, go with the flow or you can start by trying to replicate any style you like. The more you do it, the better you will become. Trust me, I wasn’t always good at free styling, but as with anything else in life, after much practice, you get better ☺

You can also get creative and add flair and drama by adding some hair. This look was created by using one pack of Marley Braiding hair and was inspired by a style I saw on Youtube. It took me less than 20 minutes to complete. See the tutorial below.

See why I love mini-twists? They are a great way to be cute and stylish while enjoying the summer fun. Grab a jar of your favorite pudding, jelly, twist cream or butter, and twist and shout!

Until next time

LOvely styles and photos! I think the sky is the limit with mini twists. They can be styled like loose natural hair, if you think about it. I’ve worn mini twists for years, and they have helped me to retain hair length- getting to bra strap length now. They can be put into up do’s, banana clips, put into bantu knots and unfurled, roller-set, wrapped around head, then let down for a “straighter, longer look”…… Have I missed anything out?? It’s just a matter of experimenting and finding what suits you. x
