Happy New Year again everyone. I am still in the blog redesign process, but I wanted to post this review for Morrocco Method Styling Pomade.

Last year I was contacted by Morrocco Method to test out a few of their products. I chose their Heavenly Chi Shampoo & Pearl Essence Creme Rinse (which I reviewed via Youtube), as well as the Styling Dragon Pomade.

The Pomade is style defining cream with a mild to medium hold. It is very creamy in consistency and smells very “natural”. It is hard for me to place the smell, it’s not fruity, florally or herbally, but it’s definitely not a scent I’m fond of.  All of Morrocco Method’s products are 100% natural, vegan, cruelty free and gluten free.

I first used the pomade on clean, dry hair to twist my hair up for my “Twisted PinUp, Twistout Bangs” style. Based on the directions, I sprayed a bit of water onto my hand to dampen it, emulsified the pomade (it turned milky) and applied it to each twist. I was pleasantly surprised at how shiny my twists were, considering the pomade contained both Shea butter and Beeswax (which can both be waxy) high on the ingredient list.  My twists were also very soft and well defined.

Speaking of ingredients while they are GREAT for the most part, I was a bit curious about the use of Borax in the pomade, and I contacted the company to ask them about it. In their response, they stated that it was used to emulsify the beeswax. I did do some research and found that this is a regular practice, however, I’m not sure if I’m 100% ok with continuously using products with Borax.

Maybe it’s a mental thing, because since childhood I associated Borax with pest control lol.  I definitely need to do some more research.

I wore the twists pinned up for a few days, then took them down once to moisturize and retwist. When I took the twists down, they were still very soft. I spritz with water, emulsified a tiny bit of the pomade in my hair (for my entire head) and retwisted.

On New Year’s Eve, I took down the twists and did this messy updo with bangs. My hair was very soft, but it also felt “producty” due to the beeswax which offers great hold, but is known to build up. I didn’t experience other flaking or dullness which often accompanies buildup, so that’s a plus.

Overall, I was pleased with the performance of the pomade. It did what it said it would do. If you are a strict co-washer, then this may not be for you, since you may need shampoo/shampoo replacement to cleanse your hair if you use the pomade regularly. The 4oz pomade retails for $19, which is a bit pricey, but you definitely don’t need a lot of product to get results.

Have you tried any products from Morrocco Method? I’d love to hear your experience.

Until next time
