So here we are, 7 years later. Exactly seven years ago today, I officially became a “blogger. With much fear and trepidation, I published my first post on the blog you now know as VeePeeJay.

When I started this hobby in 2011 I had no idea it would lead me to where I am today. From my early years of being a “secret blogger” and not wanting anyone to know I had a blog, to hosting events, winning an award, speaking on stages , experiencing burnout, detours and starting my own business, it has been quite a ride and I’m grateful for it all.
To very honest, I have thought of shutting down the blog more times in the past year, than I have in the last seven years combined. Afer coming out of a challenging 2017, I just wasn’t feeling it and felt like it might have been time for yet another pivot. After all, seven is the number of completion, right? 🤷🏽♀️ Also, social media and the entire landscape has changed a lot and I was just “over it”.
Then I started reflecting on why I started, who I was doing this for, the impact this blog has had on my life (I’m not just talking about money), and the people whose lives I’ve been able to touch and in return, be touched by.
Although I will be making another pivot soon (more on that later 😉), I realize I still enjoy having this space.

This facebook memory from July 16, 2015 is among my favorites
I also decided to give the blog a little facelift to celebrate. 😉 You like?
Thank you for your support over the past 7 years. It’s been a journey of learning, growth and transformation and I certainly could not have done a lot of it without your support.
Great Article. I am so proud of you. I am now on a bloggers journey and I hope to have as much success as you. I am also on a hair regimen. I am 48 and I just cut all of my hair, and permed it. I tried to go natural but it did not work out. Perm hair is work also, but my edges have finally grown back. They would not grow with my natural hair. I used Edge Rx by vitastrand.com, and they grew back in 60 days. Your edges look great, but we can’t say that about a lot of our black women.
One of the best things that happened to me when I started this blogging journey was meeting you. First virtually then in person and all the calls, prayers, love and lifting ups we’ve shared have meant the world to me. The fact that my eyes are wet as I type this says it all. Happy Blogaversary my sister friend. Love more dan ackee & saltfish with dumplings. 😂
