Yep, I’m guilty of jumping on the Hair Steamer “bandwagon.” I got this as a Christmas present last year and have been using it since. As you can see, the brand is Secura and not the other popular brand but it looks almost identical, works just as well (from what I read/heard) and was A LOT cheaper! It was only $65 shipping included 🙂

I must admit that when I first used it I was slightly disappointed. I thought “that’s it?” My hair felt ok, but wasn’t the “uber-softness” that people often rave about. However, with continued use it got better, I think consistency is the key. I won’t say that a steamer is a necessity but it’s definitely a nice treat for your hair and skin. I have found that my hair is more moisturized if I use the steamer during my pre-poo session than during my deep conditioning, so that’s how I use it.

The steamer came with the facial attachment which I LOVE, I actually use it more than the hair attachment and recently started using it to give my hair a quick boost while steaming my face.

There are negatives about this steamer though.

  • First, the hood attachment is kinda awkward to sit under and I’ve had to turn into a contortionist to get the steam to reach the back of my head. I found that pinning/piling my hair at the crown of my head helps.
  • The steamer is very lightweight and any movement will cause it to shake. I actually got burnt the hot water that collects in the rim because I accidentally bumped it while I was steaming.
  • It only steams in about 15 minute bursts and I have to refill the water and start over if I want a longer session.
  • Because it’s a tabletop steamer, it’s hard to find a perfect table/chair combo that allows the steam to hit your hair. Piles of books and pillows have been my solution.

Overall, I like the steamer and I’ll continue using it. But sometimes it becomes a chore to sit under it when I just want to be about my business. For that reason, I don’t use it every week (for my hair) but I try to get the “treatments” in at least twice a month 🙂

Do you own a steamer? How do you like it? Please share your experience below 🙂

Until next time

Hey Kayelle, thanks. Yeah, the pre-poo/dry DC steam seems to yield better results for me 🙂

This article really helps! Been thinking of getting Huetiful hair steamer but this is more affordable, not sure or convinced it is really a necessity though…right now I use the traditional method which is ‘shower cap and the micro fibre towel wrap’ (thanks to you!)
The steamer would just be a treat really…

I have this same one and agree with your review 100%. I will try to steam when I prepoo as opposed to when I DC to see if Iike that better.
