I guess it comes in waves….first I wanted Big Hair and then I was in the mood for curls. People often comment that I’m always doing “something” to my hair. Well it’s kinda the truth because I get bored quite easily plus I love the versatility of having natural hair, although it does not always cooperate so I’ve learnt to just go with it.

Anyhoo, I purchased these “curlers” from eBay (they are called Magic Leverag) earlier this year. I got 6 packets (there are 18 per pack) because I knew I would only be able to use the longer of the two sizes. It’s a good thing I did because I ended up using all 54 plus one short one that I had to add a flexirod to 🙂
I started out using Jane Carter Wrap and Roll lotion but eventually went “under the sink” and pulled out some Elasta Qp styling foam I had from relaxed days. I applied on damp hair and wet to bed. Needless to say, these are the MOST uncomfortable things I’ve ever slept in!

I was very pleased with the results, although some of my ends were kinda fuzzy, but that’s because they were not wet enough. Lesson learnt. Yes, I would do this again (despite the sleeping difficulties) because they are also a great way to stretch your hair. I only kept them in for two days, but next time I’m aiming for at least a week and I’ll do it on sopping wet hair 😉

I did have time to record a tutorial, so check it above. As usual, there’s some babbling and other shenanigans 😉

Have you ever done curls on your natural hair? What did u use? Please share your experience and tips below.

Hey Shannon, I only kept mine in for 2 days because I didn’t used something with a lot of hold nor did I do it on wet hair, so that affected the results. Next time I will try pineappling (piling the hair untop your head or doing small loose ponytails) to maintain the curls for longer AND do it on wet hair. You can try that method to see if it works for you ☺

Thanks Afithan! Girl, I was tossing and turning all night! Maybe I put too many in but it was uncomfortable, no two ways about it 🙂

Hey Allie, thanks so much. These are not “real” curlformers. I got these on ebay, they are called Magic Leverag 🙂

Hey sis. Thanks 🙂 I haven’t figured that out yet….lol. I only left them in for two days, but I know most people using a light oil like coconut or grapeseed (although they are not moisturizers) or some kinda serum for “maintenance”. Cause we know once water touches it, it’s all gone! 🙂 I guess you’ll have to make sure your hair is well conditioned and moisturized, but I’ll definitely have to look up some vids on how people maintain their “sets”. Also, if you find one, let me know 🙂

okay sis, I love these. I am planning to buy some curlformers very soon. How long does this style last and how do you moisturize your hair till you wet it again?
