This past weekend, I finally made it to Home Depot to do something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time….get to shower filter. Many parts of Texas have been known to have hard water, however I cannot say that the water where I live is the “hardest”, but it’s definitely not the softest either.
I drink filtered water for the most part because the tap water tastes horrible in my opinion, but for the past 3 years I’ve been treating my hair as a second class citizen. Time for a change….
I haven’t really had any problems with my hair because of the water, but I recently found a few short hairs in the crown area. It’s not enough to cause alarm but I noticed them so I’m being proactive.
I do use distilled water in my hair spritzes and concoctions and Apple Cider Vinegar rinses are part of my regimen, but my hair is still not immune from all the chlorine, dirt and other deposits in the water. I was also prompted to hurry up and get a filter because my blogger friend Dovie from Kinky from the Heart recently moved from here to Florida and she mentioned noticing a difference immediately after using water that had been softened.
Hard water can cause dry, brittle hair and breakage especially in the crown area, since it’s the part that gets the direct hit from the water. It also strips color from your hair and causes build up on your hair and skin. I will test my filter out the next time I wash my hair to see if I notice a difference. I did get a pretty basic filter that claims to “remove chlorine, dirt scale and odors.”
We shall see. Stay tuned.
Have you had hair issues because of hard water? I’d love to hear your experiences.
Until next time
lol..thanks Laquita. Yes, I’ll definitely do that 🙂
Congrats on getting your filter! Okay – now you have to do a compare/contrast with the new water and the shampoo bars :o)
