Vacation Hair: Kinky Twists + Maintenance Routine

How to Maintain Kinky Twists

grenada-vacation-veepeejay4Before I left Dallas for vacation in Grenada, I planned to install some Crochet braids. Due to time constraints, that never happened :/  For the first few days, I “attempted” to wear a twist out but the humidity here just wouldn’t let me be great.

My sister began the braid pattern for the Crochet braids but I quickly realized that having hair on my neck was not something I wanted to deal with. We went with plan B. Kinky Twists with cornrows (originally done for the Crochet braids) in the middle, worn in a bun.
Maintaining Kinky Twists

This style is perfect for vacation and the hot Grenadian weather. The kinky twists maintenance is pretty easy too. I only brought three natural hair products with me to Grenada. Two of them were part of my summer favorites.

Maintenance Routine:

  1.  I use Witch Hazel on a Q-tip every other day to “cleanse” my scalp. I’ve been using this method for years and it always works really well.
  2. Spritz hair and scalp with Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Leave in Conditioner.
  3. Apply oil lightly to hair and scalp. Oil mix borrowed from my sister 🙂
  4. Apply CURLS Blueberry Bliss Control Paste to my edges
  5. DONE.

My hair has been holding up pretty well but I’ll be on vacation for 10 more days, so I may need to wash or remove them before I leave.

I’ve been posting daily on my Instagram account so feel free to follow me there to see what I’m getting into 🙂

YOUR TURN: Do you take natural hair products with you when you travel or do you opt for a maintenance free/low maintenance style?

Until next time
