So as “promised”, I removed my Crochet Braids this past weekend and decided to give my hair some loving after being “put away” for three LONNNGGG weeks 🙂 Although it was time for my Henna Gloss, I was itching to try this recipe(I changed the name a bit) from Lolazabeth.com ,an awesome blog that I stalk love, because it feeds my need to mix stuff. I had all the ingredients and decided to tweak the recipe ever so slightly since I didn’t feel like sharing my last can of coconut water with my hair! (See the original recipe here)

Here’s what I used:
1 Super Overripe Soft Avocado – *no one likes picking bits of Avocado out of their hair*
1/4 cup Plain Yogurt – provides a shot of protein to fill in gaps in hair shaft.
2 Tablespoons Aloe Vera Gel – has moisturizing properties
2 Tablespoons Avocado Oil – all around AWESOME oil that penetrates hair shaft
1 tsp Brahmi Powder – strengthen the hair, great for scalp health
1 Tsp Neem Powder – great for scalp health
I whipped it all REALLY well and applied to freshly washed hair let it “marinate” for 20 minutes. My hair felt nice and STRONG afterwards. I can’t say it was super soft as this is more of a strengthening treatment but I know my hair really appreciated the loving. I followed up with my BeeMine BEE_U_TI_FUL deep conditioner under my steamer. Ah..good stuff 🙂 Click HERE to watch the video.

I twisted my hair up and then wore super-separated twist out for church on Sunday!

So in case you didn’t realize by now, I love to mix stuff up and try new things :). What are some of your favorite strengthening treatments, homemade or not? Share below.
Until next time

Thanks so much Emily! I don’t think it was make a huge difference but the powders do have added benefits, but I’m sure your hair will be fine without it 🙂

Hey Subrina! Awww….you made my evening..you’re welcome! 🙂
I’m glad you had success with the mix. Yes, leaving it on too long can make your hair over moisturized (it happened to me before), but soft hair is GREAT! lol
Just monitor your hair and if it starts to snap and break, it may mean that you need a little protein. I’ll explain more in an upcoming post. Best wishes with the transition, feel free to ask questions and thanks for commenting 🙂

Hey Vee, I tried something similar a few weeks ago…soft was not even the word.
my mix consisted of Avocado, Coconut Oil, Coconut milk Olive oil and a little conditioner. my hair felt really soft almost too soft but that could be the fact that I used a conditioner cap (the foil caps) and kinda forgot it on my head well over and hour. But I think 20-30 mins will be perfect.
Btw…thanks for the inspiration I am now 4 months into my transition, hoping this will be my final run at transitioning

Hey Luiza, thanks so much. Your blog has awesome info too, I’m glad I found it!
Thanks for the great compliment on my skin. It doesn’t always cooperate but I wash with (most times) African black soap diluted in distilled water with a few oils added in, I tone with a ACV/Green toner http://thehodgepodgefiles.blogspot.com/2011/10/diy-green-teaapple-cider-vinegar-toner.html), and I moisturize with a moisturizer by Alba Botanica or sometimes Shea/Mango butter. Oh, I also do Bentonite clay masks weekly/bi-weekly as needed 🙂

Hey CB, I had the same experience the first time I used Avocado too, I was picking bits out for a week! This time I used a very overripe (almost spoilt) avocado and blended it well and didn’t have ANY bits to pick out.

Hmm…yogurt with Henna, I try that next time I do a henna gloss, thanks for sharing 🙂

That sounds so tempting. However, the last two times I used Avocado, there were bits of it left in my hair. I guess it was not ripe enough 🙂
I use henna mixed with different ayurvedic powders , sometimes I use yogurt to make a henna gloss.
