As an introvert, working for myself (and by myself…a lot of time) often has me with my head down, on my laptop, consulting with clients via email, Skype or hangout, most of the time. While I can’t really say that I get lonely (Read: introvert 🙂 ) , entrepreneurship/solopreneurship in itself can be a lonely road.
In this post, I mentioned that this year, I would be sharing more of my journey as a solopreneur. Yesterday I attended the first “Brunch & Build” hosted by my friend Julian Addo, and it inspired me to start this new series called “Solopreneur Tales”.
I have been to many brunches, and I knew the majority of the women who attended “Brunch & Build”, pretty well. As a matter of fact, the majority of us are friends and we often see each other at events. However, this brunch was different. While we text and communicate a lot via social media, it was so refreshing to just sit and chat as bloggers, women and business owners, and to REALLY get to know each other.

While I have an amazing family support system, and a great online “tribe”, taking the time to #BrunchandBuild in person is also so important. I know for sure, that you truly can’t get to where you want to go all by yourself.
While brunch was amazing, I think everyone would agree that the highlight of our day was getting our makeup done at Blushington Makeup & Beauty Lounge here in Dallas. The staff was so amazing and friendly, and the champagne and personalized name cards added a really nice touch.
This was so much more than just going to brunch and getting our makeup done. One of my favorite moments of the day was The Natural Cole’s reaction after being pampered at Blushington. Let’s just say she was really feeling herself, and made the commitment to do more self care. As a card carrying member of #TeamSelfCare, I approve 🙂
Of course, we could not let all this amazing makeup go to waste. We each had our own, impromptu, mini headshot session thanks to our resident photographer, I’sha of Ishagaines Photography.
Thank you to Blushington Makeup & Beauty Lounge for hosting us, and an extra special thank you to my amazing, selfless friend Julian who put together this team building opportunity for us.

I need to attend more events like this! It sounds like a good time and you ladies look lovely. I love that African proverb too.
Best Wishes,

I would love to do something like this here in DC. This is a great idea, I’m going to check out the other ladies.
Looks and sounds like you had a great deal of fun! Everybody gets by with a little help, no reason to go it alone. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! I love this.
Thanks Istra 🙂
