One of the questions I get asked a lot of is “what is your hair routine?” The bulk of my “routine” happens on wash day so in today’s post I break down my complete wash day routine for natural hair.

Step 1: Pre-poo / Detangle

Pre-pooing is simply applying an oil and/or conditioner to your hair prior to cleansing. A pre-poo acts as a pre-shampoo treatment to prevent dryness. Most people tend Coconut Oil as their pre-poo. It is one of the few oils that has the ability to penetrate the hair shaft. I also like to use this time to detangle my hair.

Step 2: Cleanse

Depending on the needs of my hair, I use a clarifying shampoo or shampoo bar. Lately, I’ve been reaching for the Eden Bodyworks Coconut Co-wash because it cleanses my hair really well without stripping. Every 4 – 6 weeks, I do some form of detox.

Step 3: Deep Condition
I know I may sound like a broken record by now but I never skip this step.

Step 4: Moisturize & Seal

For my hair, this is another important step. My hair is prone to dryness, so making sure that it is conditioned and well moisturized is important to keep it healthy.

I tried Eden Bodyworks for my daughter with 4c hair, I only liked the co-wash. The rest tended to dry her hair out. I also don’t think I have been deep conditioning her hair long enough. Thanks for the tips. I will apply your suggestion about letting it dry wrapped with the leave-in conditioner.
