Falling in love with your natural hair is one of the most amazing things that you can do. Some naturals fall at the first sight of their precious curls or the love grows over time. I say either way, just love what you’ve got! Here are 5 simple tips to help you get a love connection going with your natural hair.
1. Get Her Name
Oh baby, what’s your name? Okay, Okay maybe a pick up line isn’t necessary for this step, but naming your hair can help you feel closer to your hair. Think of a name that best describes your hair, is something that you can identify with, and is positive.
2. Get Her Digits
By digits I don’t mean a phone number, but I do mean your hair type. For example, my hair’s digits are 4A, which is a coily springy texture. Knowing your hair’s digits will help you find the best way to manage your hair and to pinpoint products that work well with your hair type. To get your hair’s digits, click here!
3. Schedule Dates
Scheduling dates will allow you to spend valuable time getting acquainted with your hair. These dates can be your wash day, scalp treatments, deep conditioning, etc. Calendar apps are a great tool for keeping track of these dates for you so that you don’t stand your hair up, which will surely lead to a break up.
4. Write Notes
Hair journals are an excellent way to keep the communication lines between you and your hair open. Your journal is where you can record notes such as what your hair likes/dislikes, any goals/challenges, favorite styles, etc. You can even write actual love notes to your hair!
5. Make a Commitment
Like any other loving relationship, you are going to have some ups and downs. Just keep the love alive and hang in there. Revisit the love notes that you wrote and remind yourself of why you fell in love in the first place. Oh and don’t be afraid to spice things up by trying something new every once in awhile.
