Sometimes you meet people and you instantly connect with them. This is true of this month’s First Friday Feature. Say hello to Trudy 🙂
1) Introduce yourself? What would you like the readers to know about you?
My name is Trudy, but I’m known on YouTube and across the internet as 4cHairChick. By night I’m a natural hair enthusiast and self help junkie and by day I’m a marketing consultant. 4cHairChick is my platform to connect other naturals, spotlight the plight of type 4 naturals and to hopefully inspire and help naturalistas to enjoy their hair journey.
2) What do you love most about being natural? Have you had any challenges?
My decision “to go” natural opened me up to a new perspective of myself. It’s kind of hard to explain, but long story short I started caring more about what I eat, how I take care of my body, and also my mental health. So what I love most about being natural is the new lens it’s given me on life.
I definitely faced challenges when I first went natural. In my YouTube video 5 Things I Never Expected http://bit.ly/Wt5uhG I talk about some of the self esteem issues that bubbled up for me. When I first big chopped it took me a while to feel beautiful. In the beginning I felt like I looked boyish and unpretty. Big chopping forced me to face my self esteem issues and it was through that process I got my self confidence back.
3) How do you care for your hair? What’s your go-to style?
I rock protective styles everyday except for weekends that’s when I treat myself. As far as hair care goes I consistently prepoo and deep condition and that has truly helped me reduce breakage because my hair stays pretty moisturized.
4) Has wearing your hair natural changed you in any way?
It’s made me more self aware in a positive way.
5) If you could give some advice to your “pre-natural” self, what would it be?
That’s a tough one. Let me cheat and give two items. It’s just hair and you only get one place to live so take care of your body.
6) Is there anything else you’d like to share? Any hobbies or special projects?
Aside from being a natural hair enthusiast my two other passions are self help and marketing. I’ve been in the marketing industry for over 7 years and I love helping small businesses, bloggers, and entrepreneurs with their marketing efforts. I also host a monthly webinar and share marketing tips so if anyone is interested check me out on Twitter at @naturalistabiz

Until next time
So true! We have to redefine what beauty is in our mind’s eyes. Thanks for taking the time to read. I’ll be checking out your blog as well. 🙂
I agree with her on forcing yousel to love yourself! Our eyes/brains hv been conditioned on what pretty is to look like since birth. once you start really forming your own opinion about true beauty its a difficult yet rewarding journey!

Hey Kay, you’re welcome. You’ll love her. 🙂
I couldn’t agree more with her “pre-natural” advice. I wish I’d had the initiative to chop earlier and shorter.
Thanks for introducing me to a new YTer. I’ll have to check out her videos.
