Late last year, I “met” Khadija from Henna Sooq via Youtube and she was kinda enough to send me a gift of  their Organic Ayurvedic Strength Hair Kit (formerly the Lush Conditioning with Volume Kit).
The kit came nicely packaged in an organza bag and contain 100g of Organic Cassia Obovata and 100g of Organic Amla Powder. Per the instructions, I added 4 tablespoons of Amla to the Cassia Powder, added some Molasses and warm water and applied as I usually do for my Cassia Treatments.
Left Side : Cassia Alone Right Side: Cassia with Amla added.
One of the first things I noticed, besides the vibrant green color, was the way my hair “hung”. It didn’t hang as low as when I used Cassia by itself. I loved the way my hair felt nice and bouncy. My husband even noticed the difference, and that’s “something” because like most men, he’s not really into little details like that 🙂
I have used Amla Powder by itself before and I know it is added to Henna/Cassia to help combat the loosening of your curl pattern which can happen with continued use (Amla Powder is already contained in the Henna I use).  However, I never really bothered to add it to my Cassia treatments because I only do them once a month. This has since changed because I just love the difference it makes.
The BEST thing about the powders in this kit that they are FINELY SIFTED and are SUPER EASY to rinse out, I think it took me less than 10 minutes to get it all out. You may recall me lamenting about how hard the Cassia I bought on Amazon was to rinse out of my hair.
Overall, I LOVE this kit. I still have some Amla powder left and I have since stocked up on Organic Cassia during Henna Sooq’s last sale. I would like to say a special THANK YOU to Khadija for letting me try out the kit. As for the “other” Cassia, I have begun the daunting task of sifting it to remove the grit! Lesson learned 🙂
Have you tried Amla Powder or have you ever added it to your Ayurvedic Treatments.? I’d love to hear your experience so please share it below 🙂
Until next time

I love Ayurveda too Allie! I kinda favor Cassia over Henna though 🙂 Yes, you’re right, Khadija is awesome and knowledgeable 🙂

I only use Ayurvedia in my hair routine. About the same time you received your kit I used the Jamila Henna to add a pop of color to my hair I use Cassia once a month and my hair was so hard from the protein. So I talked with Khadija and she gave me a solution for my hair and it felt so good. I order all of my supplies thru Henna Sooq becauuse of Khadija’s knowledge and her customer service.

Hey Raven, it’s not childish at all, laughter is good medicine..:) Henna, Cassia and other Ayurvedic treatments help to strengthen and condition the hair. You can pick and choose which herbs you want based on the results you’re going for. Yes, still in the castor oil challenge, it goes until June 1 🙂 Enjoy your day too 🙂

Hey Tinuke, I agree about the shiny and dark, although my hair is naturally dark but it makes it really vibrant! I guess the fact that Amla prevents your curl pattern from loosening is the reason it cause your hair not to hang so low as compared to using Cassia/Henna alone 🙂

I have tried Amla and it made my hair very shiny and dark. I did not notice so much of the “hair hanging”, but I will observe more closely next time.

This may sound childish, but the green in your hair made me giggle. I was like “what did she do?! ” LOL. So what does Henna, Cassia and Ayurveda do to your hair anyway?? & are you still keeping up with your Castor Oil regimen?

    Have a good one, girlie!

I’m probably the wrong person to post a comment here, because I’ve never tried Ayurvedic hair treatment. I have a sample of henna in my bathroom & I’ve been starring at it for months! (Just like Rhassoul clay, It took a customer to get me to try Rhassoul and now I’m hooked…in a good sense lol) Some day soon I hope to try henna & Ayurvedic…thanks for sharing your experience. The pictures are lovely and encouraging.
