It is no secret that I love mini twists. They are my go-to low manipulation/protective style (using my own hair), but I’ve taken the meaning of “mini” to the point of MICRO. I had the brilliant (insert sarcasm here) idea to do micro twists, since I hadn’t done them in over a year.
About an hour into this “adventure”I suddenly came to my senses, and remembered why I stopped doing them….they take a long time. I knew I was in for a “treat” when my husband walked in and said, “umm…yeah, those will take a while.” Well I’m not a quitter, so I kept on trucking…..I mean twisting.
I used Jane Carter’s Nourish and Shine which is a mix of butters and oils, to twist dry (clean), mostly stretched hair. I decided against using something that was water based because I didn’t want my “micros” shrinking too much.
I am tempted to count the twists….lol. |
After 10.5 hours worth of twisting, also known as FOREVER, I was done. I breathed a heavy sigh of relief and stepped back to admire my work. I was pleased, and the style ideas immediately started flooding my brain. I’ll have plenty of time to try them all out, because I intend to keep these in for 4 weeks (3 minimum), and I do not plan on washing them. For one, they are more prone to tangling because they are so small, and I’m always tempted to “freshen up” twists after I wash them. I’d mostly like end up re-twisting my entire head….and that’s not happening.
I plan on using Witch Hazel and/or diluted Apple Cider Vinegar(AVC) on a Q-tip to keep my scalp clean. I don’t suffer from scalp issues so my scalp should be fine. I will be lightly misting my hair with water and sealing with either coconut oil or the Nourish & Shine, in an effort to minimize product buildup.
It’s been 5 days since I’ve had the twists in and I’m loving them. I opted for this simple updo for church today. I mostly wear them in some kind of pinned up style because it’s still very hot. So far, so good. 🙂
Do you wear mini/micro twists? What’s your favorite way to style them?
Until next time
your hair is beautiful!!!!!
Your twists are always so beautiful sis!

Hey Stephanie (KCL), thanks love. Yep, it’s concentrated but pretty light and as you know a little goes a super long way. I got mine at the Nappiology Expo last November when JCS was here and selling them for $10. They may be here this year ago so let me know if you want me to pick up some for you 🙂
Thank you so much S J 🙂
Love this Vee! Cannot wait for Black Friday though because I need two of those Jane Carter Nourish and Shine jars. Thats the only type of “butter/pomade” that doesnt weigh the babies hair down. They have fine hair but my two year old has VERY fine hair. A little bit of EVOO would make her hair look hella greasy and stringy.
