In yesterday’s post I briefly mentioned my “hair situation” regarding Crochet braids with Marley hair. I installed my first set on Friday using hair from Janet Collection (Afro Marley Braid – Noir Collection).
My braiding pattern was nothing special since I did a (sloppy) rush job. I’m only showing it because I know people always ask. πŸ™‚ The pattern you use depends on the way you want your hair to fall. I usually braid down the perimeter of my hair to reduce some of the tension on my edges. I also use smaller sections of crochet hair on my edges.

1. Installing the hair. 2. The back view – no bueno
3. Trying to look decent while hiding my edges
4. End of the day. Hmmppf…it didn’t look this good in the morning.
This version only lasted two days. The hair was way too bushy for my liking. The back was especially bushy and it looks way better in pictures when I wear it out…trust me :). The pack I used for the back of my head seemed less “kinky” than usual, and I believe this contributed to the bushiness. I even tried adding a little bit of product ,but it wasn’t meant to be.

Today I removed the Janet hair and less than two hours later I had a new do. Β I recycled the hair I used in my Kinky Twists. The hair is used was called “Naffy braid” ($10 per pack), but any Kinky twist hair will do. The “twist out” look came about because instead of cutting off my Kinky Twists, I untwisted them and saved the hair.

I washed and conditioned the Kinky Twists hair and crocheted it into my hair. While wearing the Kinky Twists I used Perm rods on the ends, so this gives the look of a “Twist & Curl”.

Naffy Braid. I really love this hair.

I didn’t record any of these installs since I already have three videos here, here and here, and quite a few posts on the different versions I’ve done. You can read all the Crochet braid posts Β and see my techniques here.
I hope this helps!

Have you tried Crochet braids with Marley Hair? I’d love to hear your experience.

Until tomorrow πŸ™‚

Wow, I used to wear crochet braids back in high school and completely forgot about them. Your results turned out great, thinking about experimenting this weekend. *fingers crossed*

I have to give this a try. I don’t know why I am so intimidated. I think the naffy hair has a softer texture. Janet collection marley hair is too much work. I only use it for sectioned twists.
