I did lots of research, read lots of reviews, watched tons of videos before deciding on the Left Coast lemon. I figured I wouldn’t need to do the detox recommended by the company, because I was not using any of the “offending” ingredients. My hair was pretty dirty, so I figured it was a great time to put it to the test.
Left: Mudwash Applied Right: After the first wash |
My first mistake was using way too much. The wash is a really smooth and creamy consistency, and the directions say to use “one or more tablespoons for long hair”. My hair isn’t super long, but I have a lot of it. It felt like I had nothing on my head when I used the first two tablespoons, so I added more.
Second mistake: I should have diluted it. I read enough reviews to know that ‘a little goes a long way” and that it’s better diluted.
On the first wash, my hair felt ok. It was easy to detangle, but it felt kinda weird, so I washed it a second time. I figured since I wasn’t doing the one week detox, I’d “wash 2-3 times” as recommended by the directions……my third mistake. By the second wash, my hair started feeling a stripped and very tangly. I did read some reviews with similar experiences where the users hair “recovered” after another wash, so I added a little bit more, and washed a third time for good measure.
After the second wash. My roots were really tangled by then |
Will I use it again? Yes, but I will use a lot less (diluted), and only wash once. I’m also thinking that maybe the Lavender wash might be better for me?? I’m not sure I’ll ever find out though, because I feel like, I came, I saw, I’m moving on. I think my expectations were uber high, and thanks to my own “mistakes”, I’m left feeling a teeny bit jilted.
I hope my second experience is a better. Stay tuned….
Until next time
Thank you so much for sharing Candace, I’ll give it a go again.
Thank you so much! I love your screen name 🙂 I have looked at Naptural85’s vid a few times and I’ll give it a whirl again. Thanks for the encouragement 🙂
I just did my first day of detox today and I love it. I rinse my hair with acv first then applied the lavender one in my hair, I rinsed it out applied it again and left it on my hair for about an hour with plastic cap. I rinsed it out and my hair feels so soft and moisture. Oh and have 4c type hair.
This is a staple for me! I have tried all of the flavors except the Sultry Spice and they work wonderfully on my 3c-4aish hair. Naptural85 has a video on how she uses a bit on her twisted hair. I tried it yesterday and it was GREAT!! Try it again! 🙂
Thank you sis, you are right. I may try the Lavender one if I decide to give it a chance long term 😉
The lemon may have made the pH too low, that was my reason for staying away from the lemon one. Anytime I use lemon in my hair it dries out and tangles. I have used the Lavender which I loved but the shipping and handling cost is very discouraging. If you decide to purchase again, try the Lavender one.
You’re right about that, everything is not for everyone! I’ve heard of 4c naturals having success with it..go figure. I think I got my fix. A miracle (or a great sale) has to happen for me to willing purchase another bottle. 🙂
lol..I know that feeling. I couldn’t bring myself to pay that shipping cost. I hope things turn around for real, or else back to Rhassoul/Bentonite I go. 🙂
Hey Tanesha! Thanks, I’ll try that next time if I still get that weird feeling. I did see lots of ringlets for real. 🙂
I’ve never tried but always wanted to! I’m like on that site every month adding items to my cart but the shipping ALWAYS make me hit the X button on the top right lol. I just wish Whole Foods carried it-wouldve been super easy. Anyways, too bad that it didnt work for you the first time. Just keep trying and tweaking. I’m sure you will come back ranting how much you love it lol. I need Rhassoul clay though. Wish Whole Foods carried that too smh.
I have and was not at all impressed and hated that I wasted my money. I tried the two that are recommended for 4c type hair (Lavendar and Left Coast Lemon). I followed the instructions and did the detox. The only other products that I used at first were apple cider vinegar and an oil blend (that I mix); because they recommend not using a lot of other products. However, my hair was screaming for moisture and I didn’t see any curls poppin’. Tried adding a natural leave-in conditioner, but still wasn’t enough.
I wouldn’t recommend this product for individuals with 4c type hair. Save your money. I wish I had…Everything ain’t for Everybody…
I hope your experience is a good one Jocelyn? What did you find that was similar? *intrigued*
I certainly hope so Kandy O. I will use up my bottle, but if I don’t see “improvement” I’m going back to my homemade clay treatments.
I haven’t tried it yet. I was going to order it when I found something similar. I will definitely try it in future though.
I’ve never tried it myself but have heard A LOT of reviews about it. Maybe you will have a better experience next time…I definitely understand being apprehensive though:o)
Hey Vee!Maybe try using an ACV rinse;after using the mud wash.Your hair looks great in the pics!Ringlets everywhere!!I found that the Lavender was to drying for my hair and the Lemon works better from me!
