A few weeks ago, on the first day of Spring, I celebrated my birthday. In August of this year I’ll celebrate my 6th “naturalversary”. In those 6 years, I have done my hair…a lot. For me, 2016 is a lot about newness, trying new things and having new experiences in all areas of my life. Last week I spent the day at the Huetiful salon here in Dallas getting a much needed “salon experience” and having an overall self care day.
While this was not my first salon visit, it reminded my of the importance of trying new things and going with the unfamiliar sometimes. Instead of picking a style that I was familiar with, and *always* do, such as a twist out, I decided to re-try a wash and go. The twist out is familiar and the results are pretty much predictable.
The wash and go is not a style that I do a lot (except that one time), because the results are not always predictable. My hair is super kinky and it takes some effort to get it just right. Thankfully for me, I was in the hands of a professional stylist (Sess) who guided me through the process, and my hair turned out great.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a bit, you may have heard me talk about stepping out of my comfort zone a time or two or three. Sometimes you have to try something new and unfamiliar because there may be a beautiful surprise just waiting to be discovered.
The wash and go look is very different for me but I really liked it while it lasted. The takeaway…never be afraid to try something new.
Oh I also got a a much needed haircut/shape that I can’t wait to style and experiment with 🙂
Of course, I recorded my Huetiful salon experience with my awesome stylist Sess.
YOUR TURN: Do you tend to stick with the familiar or are you open to trying new things?
Your hair is beautiful! I can’t find Seas on IG. Is she still in the DFW area? I am wanting to make an appointment with her.
what products did you use for her wash and go. I have 4b and 4c hair also.
Wash n’ go is not my best friend either. But I really love your result.
I know right lol. I think I might have been converted a bit. Thanks Nerline.
Okay..what happened to my comment? I think it has been swallowed by the net. Your hair is lovely, and l am envious of all that hair 🙂 . This style looks great on you.
Not sure where it went lol. Thanks Kem.
You have beautiful hair! Oh, I completely understand the challenge of caring for kinky hair. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Antoinette.
Love your wash and go look! I’d love to find a salon here in LA that can introduce me to some easy DIY natural styles.
Thanks lady!
You look very pretty. I’m open to trying a new salon soon. I want to get a good haircut (not a big chop) to progress along with my transition.
Thanks Jay.
Looks super cute on You! I am committed to trying new things this year including my hair styles. We shall see how this goes. lol
LOL..go for it. It’s fun. Thanks Kirstin.
