This past weekend I washed my mini-twists because……well truth be told I wanted to use my Bobeam Shampoo bar again 🙂 Plus my twists had been in for a week and a half.

After washing with my Bobeam shampoo bar (I used the Cheris Hibiscus bar), my hair felt so soft. I deep conditioned, applied a leave-in, sealed and allowed my hair to air dry for a bit.  Next I retwisted some of the fuzzy twists in the front and around the perimeter of my head.
I got the idea to do pipe cleaner curls from YouTuber PrettyDimples01. I have used them to curl my kinky twists before but I’ve never used them on my own hair because they’re typically used by person with locs. I purchased 3 packs from Walmart (0.77cents for a pack of 25) in the craft section- they’re called fuzzy sticks, and set to work.

I folded each stick in half and made a loop at the end. I think I used 33 sticks in all. Good thing they’re soft because we could have had issues at bedtime 🙂

Oh, I used my newest concoction Flax Cream (Flaxseed gel + Shea Butter) to put in my pipe cleaners AKA fuzzy sticks 🙂

I would say the results were great! My hair was not sticky or hard and the definition was amazing when I removed the pipe cleaners the next day 🙂

Words of “caution”: DO NOT attempt to apply pipe cleaners to loose hair, you WILL end up with a tangled MESS. 🙂 Also, be careful when removing the pipe cleaners so that metal at the ends does not snag your hair. Otherwise, this is a great, inexpensive styling option 🙂

What do you think? Will you give pipe cleaners a whirl? 🙂

Until next time….

Hey Porsche! Thanks for the wonderful compliment! I have a sister who is currently transitioning so I know how challenging it can be and YES curls are great for blending the two patterns. I really like the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie for keeping the natural part nice and soft. Check out the My hair regimen ( http://thehodgepodgefiles.blogspot.com/p/my-regimen.html) to see some of the products I use, but if you tell me what your hair needs are I may be able to make some better recommendations! Hope this helps and thanks for commenting!
    Happy New Year 🙂

I love love love your hair!! I have had some micro twists for about 2 months and I’ve decided to go natural once I take them out. I’ve heard that curls hide the new growth so I googled so many styles & finally came across yours. What products besides those listed above do you recommend because I am just transitioning so my hair is not as “natural” as yours? Thanks again & great job!! 🙂

I’m planning on going out to Walmart as I’m typing this to get some fuzzy sticks especially since I was lazy to redo my twists. Great idea!

hey Janel…you might seen them at craft store. They are also used to make flowers and other craft stuff 🙂
You put them in the same way you put in rods (the soft ones), once you get to the top you fold them over to hold them in place. They “fuzzystuff” that covers the metal is thick so the metal never touches your hair. Hope this helps…thanks for commenting 🙂

Pipe cleaner to curl your hair wow; I have seen those things but can’t remember where. I am wondering how you manage to take it out without cutting your hair.

Hey girlie, thanks 🙂 Sorry if I wasn’t clear. Let me try to explain:

    1. I folded the stick/pipe cleaner is half and twisted it together, making sure to leave a loop at the top (as in the pic above).

    2. I rolled my hair onto it starting at the bottom (like you do with rods) with the loop facing downward so that it held my hair.

    3. When I got to the top, I folded to end over my roots to hold it in place.

I’m editing the video for my Youtube channel and you’ll be able to see the technique a little clearer on there. If you’re interested my channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/VeePeeJay

Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting 🙂
