Flat Twist Updo on Natural Hair

One of the many things I love about social media, especially Instagram, is the constant natural hair inspiration. This elegant flat twist updo on natural hair is one of the many styles I’ve been crushing on.

I posted it on my Facebook page a few weeks ago, and filed it away as one of my “to try” styles. After months of trying locate the source, I stumbled on a repost from Naturalhairdoescare. It was originally done by A Natural Affair Beauty Lounge in Memphis, TN on (@ambitiouspearson).

I really wanted to recreate the style but I’m still not very good at flat twisting, and I definitely can’t twist going up the back of my head.

My girlfriend Vicki was visiting and I learned that she knew how to flat twist.
We set to work by sectioning off a horseshoe section in the front of my head.My hair was previously moisturized with CURLS Curl Souffle and she flat twisted using one of my favorites, BASK Palm Tapioca Hair Cream.

The horseshoe section was two strand twisted and I used two folded pieces of Marley Hair towards the back to add a little height. The completed style was achieved by tucking and pinning in place until we found a look we wanted.

My “stylist” also did photographer duties and we ended up having a mini photo shoot when we were supposed to be taking hair pics. 🙂 Hey, what not!? It was so much fun.Flat Twist Updo
My hair is still going strong one week later, and I plan to keep it in for another week. If I feel inspired, I may re-work the front section for a different look.
