Volunteering at the North Texas Food Bank is a great way to give back especially during the holidays.

Around this time of year many of us are thinking about gifts. The gifts we’re giving and the ones we will receive. I wanted to share some of my favorite gifts to give, the ones that give back. 🙂 Volunteering is an easy one we can all do, at any time of the year.

Last evening, I volunteered my time at the Fisher Cares & Shares #Nuts4Texas Volunteer night at the North Texas Food Bank.  During a simultaneous 5 city volunteer drive, Fisher Nuts donated $40K to Feeding Texas.

At the Dallas location, within the space of 3.5 hours we were able to pack 5000 meals for kids. These meals were part of the “Food 4 Kids” program which provides meals for kids to take home on the weekends.

Most of us are fortunate to never even have to worry about what we will eat, but many people have to worry, especially during this time of year.

Volunteering a few hours of your time will make a big difference in someone else’s life. Of course, you don’t have to stop once the holidays are over. Volunteering is a gift definitely keeps on giving.

The North Texas Food Bank has weekly volunteer shifts from Tuesday – Saturday. You can find out more information on their website www.ntfb.org.

Of course if you can’t volunteer your time, you can also make a donation to the food bank. $1 can provide food for 3 kids. The Food Bank also has Holiday Gift Guide of other items you can sponsor. Click HERE to view.

If you’re not sure where the Food Bank is in your area, you can visit Feeding America for a national listing.

I really need to volunteer my time more and this is on my list of goals for 2015. It’s so great that you took the time out to do this and I bet it made all the difference to your week. I’ll like to teach my children to give back and to think of others who aren’t as fortunate. We usually donate clothes at the end of every season that the kids outgrew as well as toys and products they no longer use.

Occasionally I volunteer at our local food bank and I agree it’s good to get kids involved too. Thank you for sharing, and reminding me that I need to go volunteer asap.

I applaud your efforts and wish more of us were doing what you are doing! I give back by volutering in my community and donating clothes & other household items every year around this time to the Junior League of Charlotte

This is so awesome! I usually give back by making donations. I’m hoping that this year I can volunteer to feed the homeless.

Such a great way to give back. Our food back recently reminded donors that in addition to volunteer hours & nonperishables, they are always in need of paper goods and spices!

It is! Kudos to you for doing your part Susan.

Oh I love this! Absolutely love. It is so sad to know that children and their families are starving right here in America. My family and I are collecting non perishable items and paper goods for a local food bank. Everyone has to bring the amount of items equivalent to # of persons per household. We are collecting everything on Thanksgiving day right before dinner is served. It is such a blessing to give back. Kudos to you Vee.
