It seems like just a few months ago I was celebrating the great 38, and now here I am again, another year older. Yes, today, I turn 39.

I LOVE birthdays and I get excited about mine every year, but this year I’m so extra grateful to be able to celebrate another year in the land of the living. After a very eventful 2017 (some of which carried into early 2018), I decided to write another letter specifically to my 25 year old self.

Dear Vashti,

You made it, you’re 25! Look at you being all grown and such. I know you’re proud of yourself for all you’ve accomplished so far but I also know that this milestone makes you a bit antsy. You’ve made it the quarter century mark after all and you’re excited to get life “started”.

Girl I have three words for you, enjoy the journey. Don’t be in a hurry for anything. Remember the Bible verse that you love so much?

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God – Phil 4:6

Let me let you in on a little secret. As the years go by you will find yourself in situations where being still is the only thing you can do. When that happens, here’s my advice, be still and let God work. It will feel like you’re stuck but you will soon realize that all things are working out for your good. Trust me, but most of all trust God. ?

Right now you probably have a list of things you’re afraid to do, but you’ll realize that feeling fear is normal, but true freedom comes from pushing past those fears so that you can enjoy life’s experiences.

Spoiler alert: In less than 2 years, you’ll marry the guy who stole your heart over 7 years ago, and despite the challenges that WILL come your way, life with him will be pretty sweet.

You can’t even begin to imagine the life that God has planned for you. It isn’t going to look like anything you planned or imagined but it will take you places, allow you to meet people, and push you in directions you didn’t even think you wanted to go. Yes it will be scary, but be open and enjoy the journey.

Vashti, I know that 25 is a milestone year for you but someday when you’re older (maybe 39) , you’ll look back and realize that all the things you were worried about, all the things you thought were important are not that important in the grand scheme of things.

Life will happen and it will test your patience, your faith, your health and it will test your resolve, but guess what? You will be ok.

Happy birthday girl! ?

YOUR TURN: What advice would you give to your 25 year old self?
