I can’t say that I’m naturally gifted when it comes to Art or other creative or “artsy” type stuff. However, I’ve always wanted to learn how to paint (at least), but I’ve always talked myself out of it because of said lack of natural ability.

In my last post, I shared how I planned to be even more intentional about everything I do.  Naturally, when the folks at Dallas Community Colleges (DCCCD) gave me the opportunity to tour one of their campuses and sit in on a few classes of my choice, I immediately said yes.

Last year I also had the opportunity to partner with DCCCD to share my story of how attending Community College .  My decision to attend community college allowed me to complete my undergraduate degree in just under 2 years and saved me thousands of dollars in the long run.
My tour guide for the day at the Richland Campus was McKinley, who was accompanied by Joanna and Monica of DCCCD. Although my time as a traditional student is officially over, I consider myself a lifelong learner so I loved being able to tour to campus and view the college’s offerings through the eyes of a student/perspective student. McKinley shared some personal success stories of students who were able to secure jobs paying $40K – $60K after completing just two years of community college.

Check out some highlights of my tour in the video below.

Once my tour was over, I headed to the Art department to sit in on two classes. I intentionally chose the Ceramics and Watercolor classes because they were outside of my comfort zone and these were two areas I was interested in, but I never actively made the effort to learn. There’s no time like the present, right?

These are just a few of the classes that the DCCCD offers in their vast curriculum.

I was so inspired by all the students whose ages ranged from the early twenties to seventies. Some had been painting for many years while others were complete newbies. One of the ladies in the class made me promise to enroll in the watercolors class, and the instructor Marian gave me an open invitation to attend her class. I will definitely be back. 😉

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Richland Campus and I definitely plan to enroll in a few classes soon. Whether you are already in the workforce and you’re looking to increase your skill level or you’re the parent of a college aged child, there are tons of programs and disciplines to choose from.
