The Shea Moisture African Black Soap Purification Masque has been a favorite of mine since 2011. Since then the ingredient list has been rearranged a bit. Most notably, the African Black Soap is not long listed as “organic”, but I still love this product. Read on.

//Original post from 2011//

I can only come up with one word to describe my feelings towards this product…LOVE! 🙂
I L-O-V-E it….oh I said that already, didn’t I ? So why do I love it so much? Well it does what it says it will do. It detoxifies, conditions, soothes and detangles like a dream, and best of all it’s all NATURAL.  Once you put this on your hair, all knots and tangles just MELT away.

This is one of Shea Moisture’s “newer” products that launched earlier this year. I’ve had it since July and try to use it sparingly because I don’t want to use it up too quickly.
At the time I bought it, Walgreens was having a BOGO FREE sale. I picked it up to try with one of my other favorites, the Deep Treatment Masque. It costs the same as most of Shea Moisture’s hair products ($9.99) and can be found at Walgreens, online and in stores. (Currently on sale BOGO 50% off )

So how do I use this product? I’ve used it as a pre-poo/detangler.  I have also added it to my “slipless” deep conditioners. It performed well in all circumstances. I love the fact that Shea Moisture’s products are multi-functional. This is one of the few product from Shea Moisture that I would not use as a leave-in because the clay in it will dry your hair out.

The smell reminds me of green plantains/banana’s, but I can also smell the clay. (I think my  sense of smell works overtime 🙂 It’s definitely not an unpleasant smell and it fades away when washed out.

So have you tried the Purification Masque? Share your experience below.

Until next time

    I have a relative that could really use something like this. She has a scalp condition that makes it really dry. I’ll have to let her know about this one. #productreviewparty

    I have dermatitis and use this as a scalp treatment. I put it on, wrap my hair up in cling wrap, and wear it for a couple of hours. If I’m having a flare-up, it really helps to soothe the itching. I also occasionally deep condition with it. #ProductReviewParty

    I have tried this product several times and it worked ok for my hair. I loved the smell of it. For some reason Shea Moisture hair products doesn’t work too well with my hair for some reason. #ProductReviewParty

    I am still on the fence about Shea Moisture. Can’t tell whether I like it or not. Sometimes it acts right and other times it doesn’t. #productreviewparty

    Oh, really? I like any product that detangles well. I love the Sheamoisture black soap skincare products but I’ve never tried this hair masque. You can’t beat the high quality and smell of their products.
