I’m not sure about you, but this Polar Vortex has caused my scalp to unusually itchy and dry. Amla is one of my favorite Ayurvedic herbs, and Amla pastes are great for scalp and overall hair health.

A few days ago, I decided to give my scalp some TLC. I usually do an Amla gloss/paste every 6 weeks or so because I love how it makes my hair look and feel.
As you will see in the video, I was running low on Amla so I added Kalpi Tone, but I generally use only Amla.

Are you a fan of Ayurvedic treatments? Which herbs are your fave?

Until next time

Hey MJ..disquis ate your comment, my apologies. Have you tried any of the lines formulated for babies? Shea Moisture has a line of products that many love. Also, do you seal her hair after applying her moisturizer? Adding a layer of oil or butter on top helps to retain moisture a little longer than usual. Hope this helps 🙂

I’ve yet to do an ayurvedic treatment in my 3 years of natural life. I’m going to have to search these products out and give it a go!

This looks interesting. What would you recommend for a toddler with extremely dry hair. Scalp is fine but hair is dry and soaks up everything I put in it.

Hey Ashley, yes I do. You’re right, most of the Ayurvedic powders look similar.
Hmm, that’s a very common complaint..”the itchy crown”. ACV is great but it sounds like you may need to do it more often. To be honest, so many things can cause itchy scalp, but most times when it’s in the crown it’s because that area gets “neglected’ when we condition/style our hair. Have you tried applying oils? As Kemi (in the comment above) mentioned Neem oil is great for scalp issues but I know it’s stinky lol.
Jojoba oil is close to the natural sebum our scalp produces so I’d suggest starting with that and adding a few drops of peppermint oil and see if that helps at all.
Ayurvedic treatments (like this paste) is great for overall scalp health, but I know you may not have the time for all that lol. Keep me posted 🙂

I loooooove Ayurvedic herbs!! My favorites are – Amla, Brahmi, Maka (bhringaraj) and Methi/fenugreek. I just recently discovered Kapoor Kachli and trying that out too. I normally mix with a tea made from hibiscus powder and then mix it all in with my deep conditioner. I apply on unwashed hair that’s been pre poo’d overnight with coconut oil and then co wash out after an hour. My hair loves this stuff! @Mommy Week, you could try Neem oil on your scalp and hair as a pre poo treatment.
