This past weekend I had the honor of being one of the special guests at Sumptuous Locks Sisterlocks Studio’s “Natural Hair Turn Up” in NYC. Wariesi, the owner and host, and I previously “met” when I did a feature on her for Bella-kinks.com.

The purpose of the event was to reintroduce Sisterlocks into the Natural Hair Community while honoring its creator (Dr. Joanne Cornwall) in a fun, lively atmosphere. The event was just that…fun, and lively.

As special guests, we had the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the audience, and being the only two “out of towners”, Bella Kinks & I were made to feel right at home!

Makeover in progress.

In addition to appetizers, cocktails, live DJ and a great atmosphere, there were makeovers, live art, hairstyling and henna tattoos, all FREE for the attendees.

Live Artist. She is AMAZINGLY talented.

Of course, there were beautiful naturals with amazing styles all over.

With Tiffany of Beautiffulcurls and Wareisi, Owner of Sumptuous Locks studio.
A few of us got together for brunch the morning after the event. It was a lot of fun to just hang out, eat and chat.
Design Essentials goodies.
Goodies from SheaMoisture, Anu Essentials, CandidArtAccesories, Loveliiyou, The Science of Black Hair,  Karen’s Body Beautiful, NuAde

Can we talk about the VIP swagbags for a moment? Not because I want to gloat about my freebies, but because I want to acknowledge the hard work of Wariesi and her team, as well as the companies who were so generous to sponsors the items.

I know how much time, effort and resources it takes to put on an event of this nature, so kudos to Wariesi for going over and above and BEYOND to make her guests feel special.

I’m so happy I had the opportunity to be part of Sumptuous Locks’ first event. If you’re in NYC, keep your ears open for her future events because she’ll be doing big things.

To see more pics of the event, go to Sumptuous Locks FB page.

Until next time
