Rhassoul Clay Bar from Bobeam Natural Hair Products

Don’t you just love it when you fall in LOVE with something unexpectedly, suddenly….
Well it didn’t quite happen like that because my curlfriend Dovie from Kinky from the Heart was the first person to tell me how much I would love Rhassoul Clay when she commented my Bentonite Clay detox post. Then, I made a new facebook friend called Yemi through Shakara Natural Tips on FB, (which by the way gives awesome tips, so please check it out), and she was raving about rhassoul so I knew I had to give it a go.

I had quite a stash of Bentonite Clay so I used up most of it before adding Rhassoul to the family. The first go at it was this Heart shaped  Cocoa & Rhassoul Bar that Bobeam Natural Products had out for Valentine’s Day. Well it was LOVE and LOVE and more LOVE. That’s all I can say….

Left: Rhassoul Clay ground into a Powder                                            Right: Rhassoul Clay Chunks

Although I love the bar, I wanted to mix up some Rhassoul paste and apply it to my hair. So after looking at recipes, I decided to add just warm water and olive oil to make the paste. Sorry, I forgot to take pics but it looks just thick, creamy chocolate milk. I applied it to my hair just like I would Bentonite and waited……

I thought Bentonite was great, but Rhassoul is amazing. My hair literally fell apart and was sooooooo soft and easy to detangle. In my opinion it is slightly more moisturizing than Bentonite and your curls “pop” even more. Excuse the picture below but I forgot (again) to take pics before I tied my hair up with my micro-fiber towel.

I’ve also been making facial masks by mixing Rhassoul clay, green tea, raw honey, neem powder, castor oil and tea tree oil…..AMAZING stuff!

So what makes Rhassoul clay different from Bentonite? Well they both contain similar amounts of minerals like Silica, iron, sodium etc but according to this article Bentonite Clay has this content:

  • Silica- 61.4%
  • Aluminum- 18.1%
  • Iron- 3.5%
  • Sodium- 2.3%
  • Magnesium- 1.7%
  • Calcium- 0.04%
  • Titanium- 0.02%
  • Potassium- 0.01%
  • Moisture- 7.8%
  • pH – 8.3 – 9.1

While Rhassoul has this content

  • Silica- 58%
  • Aluminum- 2.47%
  • Iron- 0.64%
  • Sodium- 2.3%
  • Magnesium- 25.2%
  • Calcium- 2.34%
  • pH – 6.9 – 7.5
As you can see, there is a huge variation in the magnesium content and the ph of rhassoul is slightly lower. I can’t tell you exactly what it is, but I’ve got LOVE for Rhassoul.

Edit (05/09/12): Rhassoul Clay can purchased online from HennaSooq.com. CamdenGrey.com, Amazon.com or any retailer that sells similar raw materials ☺

Have you tried Rhassoul and/or Bentonite Clay? I’d love to hear your experience/preference.

Until next time

I know, I’m so sorry. I’ve been working to find a subscription service that works with my blog. Google Friend Connect no longer works on my site because my blog is not connected with Google/Blogger. I’ve been looking for other options though and I’m open to suggestions if you have any by chance. Thanks for hanging in there with me!
P.S. I’m on ZipporahBeauty now and was able to add my RSS Feed to my page there:o)

Hey Kandy, I got the fine clay from Henna Sooq and the chunks came from Nharo in Canada, but HennaSooq sells it also. So does Camden Grey and Mountain Rose Herbs.

Ps: I’m still unable to see you blog “follow” button so I miss your posts a lot ☺
