If you’ve been a longtime follower of my blog, you may recall me raving about how much I loved the results of my twistout with Afroveda’s Cocolatte Moisture Mask. Fast forward 6 months later and I can’t say I love it but I don’t want to use the word hate either….sigh.

The product is marketed as a “rich hair cream” and rich it is. It is thick and has a tacky/gummy consistency making it great for providing some hold, and a little bit goes a VERY long way. I purchased an 8oz jar at the Nappiology Expo last November at “show” price but it retails for $17.50. Yikes! If you know anything about me, you’ll know that I find that to be SUPER pricey. But let’s get to the meat of the matter ☺

The Cocolatte smells very chocolate-y and the scent does linger for a while. As you can see..or maybe not (sorry about the blurry pic), the ingredients are very good and I was really interested in trying the product because of it’s Ayurvedic ingredients.  The instructions indicate that the product can be used on wet hair as a styling aid, as a moisturizer or as a nightly treatment for your ends.

From the pics you can see that the Mask lives up to its claim to moisturize and rejuvenate dry, frizzy, coils and kinks. I hardly get any frizz when I used it for my twists/twistouts and I loved how smooth they look and feel. What I do not like, is the fact that NO MATTER how I use this product I can only get one day hair AND my hair gets very hard and dry on the second day. Because the product is so rich, I’d only lightly spritz my hair with water and retwist, but that didn’t make a difference.

I’m kinda confused because it is very moisturizing and smooth on the first day. I’ve tried it by itself on wet hair, on dry hair, on wet hair with a leave-in below, with a sealant on top (not necessary….except if you want VERY greasy hair) and I just can’t get it to work. I will use up the remainder of the jar or I may swap it, but I will not purchase another jar.

Have your tried the Cocolatte Moisture Mask? I’d love to hear your experience.

Until next time

That’s funny because a couple of months ago I was saying how great this product line was, I too have changed my mind. The products only lasts for about two days in my hair before it became dry. For $17+ a pop I am going to need to get more than two days before I have to wash it out and start all over.

I’m glad I’m not alone Edith! Thanks for the idea, I think I’ll do just that! Or maybe as a pre poo ☺

I got the same thing when I used it so I just used the rest for a deep conditioner.

Hmmm. that is weird. I wonder why it works on the first day only. I would not buy again either but your twists look fabulous though.
