How to Minimize Itching from Synthetic Hair.

Like most people, I have had my share of styles using Synthetic hair, well mostly braids. I’ve only had a weave once when I was relaxed. Anyway, I often suffered from really itchy scalp and sometimes flaking when I used synthetic hair.

After doing some research, I recently came across a few online posts (and many Youtube videos) that talked about an alkaline coating/base that is put on hair during the manufacturing process to prevent molding etc..
This coating is often the culprit behind the itching and flaking and even severe allergic reactions.

I decided to use a tip I learned to remove the base from theΒ Crochet Braids hair to minimize/alleviate any itching and irritation. It’s been almost 3 weeks since I’ve had my braids in and I can report that I have hardly had any scalp itching.

I also added one additional step. See the video below for how it’s done.

[disclaim]Β I also learned that Human Hair is also treated so this method MAY be useful if you have issues with Human Hair.[/disclaim]

YOUR TURN: Have you had issues with using Synthetic (or Human) hair weaves, braids etc? How did you deal with it? Share your experiences below.

Until next time

Hey Myd1, so sorry you have the “itchies”, I know how you feel. If you’re able to wet the braids, then you can do an ACV (Apple Cider vinegar rinse). Use 1 tsp of ACV to one cup of water (or double the recipe as needed) and use it to pour over your scalp. It will not smell great but the smell will go away. If’ you’re not able to wet the hair, then you can make the same mixture and use a q-tip to clean your scalp. (If you don’t have access to ACV, regular white vinegar will do). You can also try making a spritz with a like oil (which one you have) and water and add a few drops of an essential oil like tea tree or peppermint to help alleviate your itching. I hope this helps..let me know how it turns out and thanks for commenting πŸ™‚

Great post! I’ve only had synthetic hair once with braids and it itched so bad the firs few days, that I haven’t done it since. that was about 2 years ago. Now that you’ve shown me how to do it, maybe I’ll give it another try.
