Yup! It definitely was time for a trim because my hair was not acting right 🙂 I hadn’t trimmed my hair since March of this year so I should have expected “problems”.
So how did I know it was time?

  • I was constantly detangling. Dead unruly ends will cause tangles
  • My ends were “bushy” looking
  • I had SPLIT ENDS…..NOT GOOD!
  • I had Single Strand Knots (this happens when a single strand of hair wraps around itself)
I do not follow a set schedule for trimming, I just pay attention to my hair and I typically end up snipping my ends about 3-4 times a year.  Well except this year……*shame on me*.
I did this last trim when I last stretched my hair using my Satin Ribbons. I find that doing it on stretched hair works because for my. Some people choose to do it on wet hair and flat ironed but dry stretched hair works for me.
Look at those ends! I really should be ashamed of myself 🙂 I took small sections and just snipped off the “bush”.
Much better! My hair definitely THANKED me by acting better. Detangling is less tedious and my hair looks much better. I did go in about a week later and removed some more hair, so in all is chopped off about an inch and a quarter of hair…don’t worry it will grow back 🙂

A few tips on trimming:
  • ALWAYS use shears to trim your hair. These should ONLY be used to cut your hair. Scissors that are used around the house (to cut paper etc) can do more hair than good because they can cause split ends.
  • DON”T be like me and hold on to OLD, RAGGEDY ends 🙂 Split ends can travel all up the hair shaft and cause breakage and mucho problems 🙂
  • Use the method that works best for YOU!

Hey Janel….girl yes, keeping the ends groomed and moisturized is one of the keys to retaining length. I’m so happy to hear that Janae’s hair is doing better! You can try the V05 Moisture Milks conditioners (the strawberries and cream one is my fav). Yes you can use Shea Butter and Mango Butter on the skin as well as the hair. Here’s an older post I did on how I make my mix.

Ps: Yes, I received the pics ;0

Also, I saw pure Mango and shea butter in G’da. But they say the shea butter is for your skin,…..?? I was wondering if I could’ve used it for her hair as it said nothing about the hair.

Ok, Janae’s ends look something like yours before you cut it. I got the message loud and clear. Let me just let you know that Janae’s hair has begun to improve since I started paying more attention to it. The rich quality of her hair is showing up more and more. I use a She Butter “Softening” Lotion along with a little olive oil and I realise it keeps her hair soft and pretty. It is about time I do her hair in a new hair-style out and share it :). I am not happy with the air conditioner though, I have to go look for something better and try it out. The shampoo I am using seems ok too, it is a moisterizing and fortifying shampoo. So now I have to get the shears and trip. For me I am in braids for about two months now (took it out treated and washed then put it back), don’t ask me what my intentions are because I have no ideas :), Did you get the pics I e-mailed?

Hey Beuluv! I kinda use a variation of her method too. I don;t know what I was thinking hanging on to those old ends when I KNOW better! Thanks for commenting 🙂

I trim my ends as needed also. I like to use a method given by Napturals85 on youtube. And yes, the hair acts so much better when the ends are tame and trimmed 🙂
