As part of my Ayurvedic regimen, I’ve been doing Henna Glosses. My last (second) gloss in late August but I’ve since done a Cassia treatment so no worries 🙂

Benefits of Henna
Henna is used to strenghten, thicken and/or color the hair. It is a great conditioning agent and is wonderful for overall scalp health. Henna will colour light hair auburn red to burgundy and will add a coppery red colour to grays 🙂
On dark hair, the color shows up only in sunlight and will look like you’ve gotten a rinse put over your hair. The best part is that it is all natural 🙂

A Henna Gloss affords you all the benefits of Henna with little to no color deposit (as long as the dye is not allowed to release or it’s not left on for too long).
Conditioner is added to the henna to combat to (sometimes) drying effect of the henna. It also helps the henna to be easily rinsed out.

Here’s what I used:

  • 2 tbsp Henna (Godrej Nupur Brand)
  • 2 tbsps Amla – conditioning herbs, give dark and healthy hair. I added this to help combat the loosening of my hair pattern which can sometimes happen with henna.
  • 1 tbsp Kalpi Tone – light conditioning; contains a slew of herbs including Brahmi, Amla, Methi, Neem etc
  • 1 tbsp Brahmi – hair revitaliser. Helps with thickness and scalp health
  • Conditioner (protein free) – enough to achieve a “yogurty” consistency.
  • Warm water – helps with the smoothness of the paste.

I did not leave to mixture to sit to allow the dyes to release since I have no interest in coloring my hair, although I did notice that my grey hairs turned slightly gold 🙂 I left the gloss in for two hours and then rinsed and deep conditioned with a protein free conditioner. Since henna can mimic a protein treatment , you must deep condition afterward to help restore the moisture balance.

Results
My hair looked and felt fuller, thicker and was shiny. I’ll definitely be doing a henna gloss again since the effects lasts about 6 -8 weeks 🙂

Day After Henna (Chunky twistout using ONLY leave-in condtioner)

As I said, this treatment was done in late August. Sorry I forgot to take pics, but I do have a VIDEO 🙂

Do you use henna or any ayurvedic herbs in your regimen?

Until next time…

You’re right, Nupur does has 9 herbs added to it. I was trying to stretch it a bit and I also just like to experiment 🙂 I don;t think it will make much of a difference it they are not added because the Nupur henna works well by itself 🙂

When I looked up that brand of henna(Godrej Nupur Henna Mehandi 9 Herbs Blend), I noticed it already had alma and brahmi mixed in it. Why did you add more? Will it make a difference if I didn’t add those ingredients( if they are indeed extra)?

Hey Marie, I usually get them at an Indian grocery store close by. There should be a few close to you 🙂 Let me know how it goes 🙂

Girl, I want to give this a whirl…where do you buy the ingredients for all your different regimens?
